NBT Vaccination…

NBT is an insidious disease which affects a large number of would-be online entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, NBT can cause permanent damage, like leaving the victim without any energy and with empty bank-accounts. Obviously, the full impact of a bout of NBT will vary from person to person, and a lot will depend on how soon after infection the vaccine is applied. The symptoms of NBT are subtle, and it is possible to contract the disease, and live with it for a long time, without necessarily recognizing it as a disease.

A disease or medical condition is an abnormal condition of an organism that impairs bodily functions, associated with specific symptoms and signs. The word “disease” is often used to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted…

NBT is an acronym for Next Big Thing. Based on the above definition of “disease”, NBT is most definitely a disease, even if it looks like something very innocent at first glance. Affected people will gravitate towards any opportunity that contains statements similar to the following:

• chance of a lifetime
• limited positions available
• free enrolment – unlimited potential
• no sponsoring required
• don’t get left behind
• you have been pre-selected
• make $10,000 or more per week
• …

These are just a random selection of statements from emails I received this morning, that were specifically aimed at “NBT sufferers”. The truth is that a large amount of email being sent today is purposefully touted as Next Big Thing, and the irony is that the senders are in most cases long-time sufferers of NBT themselves.

What often happens is that someone contracts NBT, and then they go through the motions and join every Next Big Thing opportunity that comes their way. After they have lost enough money, they start becoming cynical and bitter about the whole network marketing / working from home idea. Unless they understand why they are losing money and failing, they will not admit defeat, and they will start creating their own hooks to infect new “entrepreneurs” with NBT.

You are susceptible to NBT, if:

• you are looking for fast, easy money, and a lot of it
• you don’t believe that anyone would be dishonest in their opportunity claims
• you are not prepared to invest any serious time into an opportunity
• you are prepared to sacrifice a reasonable amount of money, in aid of becoming insanely rich
• you are probably a bit vague on why you want to become insanely rich
• you believe that you can do everything on your own
• you believe that failure to meet the income-claims touted by the opportunity spin-masters, is your fault

The NBT vaccine is available, and it will not cost you any money as such. However, it will cost you some of your time, and one inoculation may not suffice. Essentially, since NBT is a disease of the mind, the vaccine needs to be applied to your mind, by your mind.

To apply the NBT Vaccine, you need to understand, and be comfortable with, the following points. I realise that this is possibly easier said than done, but so long as you want to be cured and you are persistent, the vaccination process will be successful.

• There is no such thing as something for nothing
• Most opportunity-claims are not true, and most income-claims are only created for the purpose of getting you hooked
• If you are not prepared to do any more than a few hours work per week, then you will probably see a resulting income based on that effort – ie not a lot
• If opportunity A didn’t work for you, then chances are that opportunity B will fail as well – you need to know why opportunity A failed before you even entertain the thought of joining up with opportunity B
• Opportunity X may have the most amazing product you have ever seen, but that means absolutely nothing if it is something that cannot be sold.
• It may look like an amazing opportunity, but you should still get a second opinion – you would if you were looking for a traditional job, right?
• Analyze the income-claims… if your investment is $30 per month and you are being promised a minimum income of $1,500 per month, you need to ask: ‘Where is the money coming from?’
• Work out why you want to be successful – write it down
• How many hermits do you know that are successful? Find a mentor – someone who is already successful
• Focus on one opportunity – multiple streams of income is a great idea, but if you can’t get one opportunity to turn a profit for you, then having multiple opportunities going at once is going to send you broke very quickly

If you are serious about being successful, you will put a serious amount of effort into the process of reaching your goals, and you will become immune to NBT. Note that the NBT virus is propagated by the people and companies promoting the here-today-gone-tomorrow opportunities. The opportunities that are on the level, and which will allow you to become successful, tend to sell themselves without the need for any hype (true or otherwise).

I mentioned earlier that NBT is a disease of the mind. While the vaccination process above should work, you can ensure that you are immunized for life by adding a healthy habit to your repertoire – reading. I have a suggested reading list at the end of this post. The point isn’t reading about your company, or about the mystical process that makes your company’s products better than anyone else’s. The point is to read for your own benefit – to expand your own mind. The more you know, the more immune you are against diseases like NBT.
