Being Rich is not for everyone!

“Where there is no power… there is never any desire to do a thing; and where there is strong desire to do a thing… the power to do it is strong.” – Wallace D Wattles

No matter how you define Being Rich, there are very few rich people in the world today. This is really quite surprising, given that compared to a century ago we now have an amazing amount of information readily available to us, explaining how to become rich.

Apart from the plethora of books and audio-tapes, there are countless movies and web-sites dedicated to spreading information about how to become rich. If gathering information and applying principles is not your strong side, there are also a multitude of opportunities which are ostensibly designed to make you rich, without any effort at all on your part. To complete the picture, you can also buy into one of the currently thriving industries – the lottery industry – in the hope of winning your riches.

I don’t think there can be any dispute about the fact that most people want to become rich, in some way or another. However, based on the discrepancy between those who actually are rich, and those who say they want to be, I suspect that not everyone is meant to be rich. Or, rather, that the act of wanting is tantamount to wishing, and as such means very little.

I believe that every one of us has the potential to become rich – in every sense of the word. However, because of the way our society has been set up, it seems to be necessary to maintain a balance between those who have and those who don’t have. Those who “have” the life they want, are realising their dreams and only work if they want to, need to be balanced by the rest, who “don’t have” what they want, keep striving for unreachable goals, and work to survive.

If everyone was in the category of “have” then who would do the work that necessarily needs to be done, but that no-one really wants to do? Of course, there is an answer to this question, but it requires a dramatic change to society as we know it.

Our society seems to be constructed to ensure that the majority of people never develop a strong enough desire to rise above the “normalcy” that involves struggling every day. To put it a different way, people are programmed to be content with mediocrity. We have a media system that perpetuates this, by making sure that at least 90% of all news reported is negative. Granted that a lot of negative things seem to be happening in the world at any given time, but the fact is that propagating negative news only makes everyone more negative and doesn’t solve the problems.

If people are kept in a negative frame of mind, they will never be able to nurture a strong desire (for anything), and they will unfortunately never become rich or successful. Of course, a few people do set themselves apart from the majority and adopt a positive outlook on life. They rise to the top, and provide the balance that our society needs to function.

A traditional business provides very little opportunity for an employee to become rich and successful within any finite time-span. Even for the owners of a traditional company, the road to riches is very uncertain, and if there is to be a profit, it will more than likely take five years or more to be realised.

A network marketing business, on the other hand, does provide an excellent platform for a person wanting to become rich. Even so, there are a few provisos. Once you have found a company that is built on a solid set of principles, you actually need to have the desire to become successful and rich. The company as such, and its products, is no longer part of the equation. Without a strong desire, you will just become part of the 95% who never turn a profit.

It is a well-known fact that around 95% of people in network marketing are not making any money. While this number in itself does not instil a great amount of confidence in the network marketing industry as a vehicle to create wealth, the surprising thing is that this number has remained the same for the past five years at least. This means that people are still joining network marketing companies and unwittingly ending up on the wrong side of the statistics. To my mind, this can only be from ignorance, or because they sub-consciously don’t want to be part of the 5% who make a profit. I do want to get rich but I never want to do what there is to do to get rich. – Gertrude Stein

While every person can be successful, and every person can be rich, I really have no idea whether the network marketing industry as a whole could support 100% of its members making a profit each month. Some companies are designed so that providing success to each and every one of their members would actually benefit the organisation. It is unfortunately true, however, that most network marketing companies would cease to exist if everyone started being successful.

  • If you replaced the word ‘rich’ with ‘communism’ in your piece, it would read almost the same.

The reason that some people are rich, and (most) aren’t is one of circumstance. (duh) I do believe the primary one is simple laziness. Another reason is also simple: Intelligence. Most people are of average intelligence, and live an average life quite happily. They don’t have the drive to reach the top, to become rich.

And there’s the similarity with your post and communism. Communism, in *principle* is a good idea, but it fails in one area: It fails because people are different! This also happens, ironically, to be the reason some people are rich and others aren’t.

Some people are good at the things that make people rich. Others aren’t interested, or don’t ‘have it’.

    The simple lesson here is:

If you have to read a book to learn how to become rich, you’re not going to become rich.

    Here’s another conumdrum:

Why, in a day and age where most people’s screen resolution is way up and over 1024×768, are comment boxes SO DAMNED SMALL????

The defense rests. Now go and watch Idiocracy, ‘cos it’s happening.

  • @chinaren: Thanks for your comments… I can’t claim to have inside knowledge about communism, but you are right that most people don’t have the drive to reach the top. That drive is beaten out of them before they realise it, and they end up happily ignorant in their mediocre lives.

However – everyone has the potential to become rich – they just have to come to this realization themselves.

  • Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any tips for inexperienced blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
